In loving memory of Mackenzie Blake

In loving memory of Mackenzie Blake

Mackenzie Blake was just 21 years young when her life was taken in a way that should never have happened. On 1 November 2021, while walking along the footpath on the Great Western Highway on her way home from work, Mackenzie was struck and killed by a driver who mounted the kerb. The driver had been disqualified from driving, with six years remaining on that disqualification at the time. He was drug‑affected and driving a truck he had never been certified to operate.

As Mackenzie’s mum, Tracy, shares in her statement, “Mackenzie wasn’t in a vehicle; she was walking along the footpath… her right to get home safely was taken from her.”

But this page is not only about the tragedy of that day. It is about who Mackenzie was: the light she carried, the love she gave, and the life she should still be living. It honours a daughter, a sister, a friend; A young woman with dreams, talents, and a heart full of love. It honours the life she lived, the future she deserved, and the people who carry her memory forward.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about Mackenzie.
Her story matters.
Her life matters.
And by remembering her, you help ensure that no other family endures what hers has endured.

Who Mackenzie Was

To know Mackenzie was to love her, and she loved others with a depth and gentleness far beyond her years. She had a huge heart, and her world revolved around family, friends, and the animals she adored. Tracy describes how “love was returned tenfold… she had a huge heart, and family, pets, and friends were her priority.”

Quiet at first, Mackenzie opened up once she trusted you, revealing a bright, funny, and wickedly witty young woman. She had a passion for art, sketching, painting, and working with clay, and she dreamed of serving her country in the Royal Australian Air Force as a dog handler. In time, she hoped to work with rescue animals, combining her compassion with her purpose.

Her loss rippled through her community. As Mackenzie made her final journey home through the mountains, people lined the highway wearing yellow and holding yellow flowers, a spontaneous and heartfelt tribute to a young woman who had touched so many lives.

A Bond Beyond Words

Mackenzie and her mum, Tracy, shared a rare and beautiful closeness. They were best friends, travel companions, concert buddies, photography partners, always together, always connected. Tracy writes, “For one so young Mackenzie was wise beyond her years… we were nearly always together and friends would say if they saw one of us, they knew the other wasn’t far away.”

Now, the empty passenger seat, the quiet room, and the absence of laughter are daily reminders of a life interrupted and a love that continues. Though Mackenzie’s time was brief, her impact remains, carried in memories, shared stories, and in the determination that no other family should lose a loved one in this way.
